Confirmation

Principles

Confirmation, which is now called “Affirmation of Baptism”, is a time for young people to declare their promise to live among God’s people, hear God’s word, share the Lord’s Supper, proclaim the good news of God through word and deed, serve by following the example of Jesus and strive for justice and peace on Earth.

Participation Required

• Sixth, Seventh and Eighth grade students meet as one class to learn and discuss the basics of Christian faith and tools for continued spiritual growth. 75% participation is expected.

• Worship: Confirmation students are expected to attend worship 75% of the time throughout the three years of confirmation education.

• Service: Students serve as acolytes during one of the three worship services.

• Home Study: Confirmation students are provided with resources to complete short assignments at home.

• Fellowship: Opportunities are offered at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Northern Illinois Synod as well as in collaboration with other churches.
